Unlike conventional strainers, the Duplex Strainer consists of two separate basket strainer chambers connected by a changeover valve mechanism, allowing one chamber to remain in operation while the other is cleaned or serviced. Engineered for continuous-duty service, the VSAN Duplex Strainer effectively removes rust, scale, welding slag, sand, dirt, and other suspended solids that may damage pumps, control valves, flow meters, heat exchangers, compressors, and other downstream equipment. The VSAN Duplex Strainer operates on the principle of continuous mechanical filtration using two independent basket chambers connected through a changeover valve. During normal operation, the process fluid flows through one basket chamber where solid particles are retained by the stainless steel filter basket while clean fluid passes downstream.
When the operating basket becomes clogged and the differential pressure increases, the changeover valve is operated to divert the flow to the second clean basket chamber. This allows the first basket to be isolated, opened, cleaned, and reinstalled without shutting down the pipeline or interrupting the process.
Once maintenance is completed, the cleaned basket remains on standby until the second basket requires cleaning. This alternating operation provides continuous filtration, minimizes process downtime, and ensures reliable protection of downstream equipment.
