The VSAN Basket Strainer is a high-capacity pipeline filtration device designed to efficiently remove solid particles, debris, rust, scale, welding slag, and other unwanted contaminants from liquid process lines. Engineered for continuous industrial service, the Basket Strainer protects valuable downstream equipment such as pumps, flow meters, control valves, heat exchangers, compressors, and other process equipment from damage caused by foreign particles.
Unlike conventional Y Strainers, the Basket Strainer features a large cylindrical basket-shaped filter element that provides significantly higher dirt holding capacity and lower pressure drop. The increased filtration area minimizes maintenance frequency while ensuring uninterrupted process operation, making it the preferred choice for applications requiring high flow rates and continuous filtration.
Manufactured using premium quality Cast Iron, Cast Steel, Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel (SS304, SS316, SS316L), Duplex Stainless Steel, and other corrosion-resistant alloys, the VSAN Basket Strainer is designed to withstand demanding industrial operating conditions. The removable stainless steel perforated basket or wire mesh screen allows quick cleaning and replacement, thereby reducing maintenance time and improving overall system efficiency.
The VSAN Basket Strainer is available in Simplex and Duplex configurations with Flanged, Threaded, Socket Weld, and Butt Weld end connections. It is manufactured in accordance with international standards such as ANSI, ASME, DIN, BS, API, and IS standards with pressure ratings ranging from PN10, PN16, PN25, PN40, ANSI Class 150, 300, and 600.

The VSAN Basket Strainer operates on the principle of mechanical filtration. As the process fluid enters the strainer body, it passes through a large cylindrical basket-shaped stainless steel filter element. Solid contaminants larger than the basket perforation or mesh opening are retained inside the basket, while the clean fluid continues to flow through the outlet.
The large filtration surface area of the basket allows it to collect a substantial amount of debris before requiring cleaning. As contaminants accumulate, the pressure drop across the strainer gradually increases, indicating that maintenance is required. During servicing, the top cover is opened and the basket element is removed for cleaning or replacement. Once cleaned, the basket is reinstalled, restoring the strainer to normal operation.
This simple yet highly effective filtration process protects downstream equipment, improves process reliability, minimizes equipment wear, and extends the service life of the entire piping system.
